I was thinking today 'what can I blog about that I don't talk about a lot'? I do tons of lipstick and eyeshadow posts and I wanted to shake it up a bit so I thought I'd talk about a couple of powders that I am in love with at the moment.
First up is the Make Up For Ever Super Matte Loose Powder. This is my daily make up setting powder at the moment and I like to apply it with the Marc Jacobs The Face 1 brush (pictured-dirty sorry) which is brilliant for powder. Don't be put off by the name, I wouldn't say this is 'super matte'. I think that implies it would be heavy and chalky but this is an incredibly lightweight and finely milled powder that is barely detectable on the skin. It never looks cakey and does control oil well-not all day for me because I have naturally oily skin but I don't need to touch up til lunchtime. I use the translucent shade but it comes in two darker shades as well. I did expect it to be very very matte given the name but I like the feel and the finish on the skin a lot.
Next up is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal light. I haven't tried one of these Ambient Lighting Powders yet that I haven't loved and I own 5 of the 6 produced.
I am sure you have heard of these finishing powders but in case you haven't they are a collection of six universally-flattering finishing powders that recreate the most flattering lighting effect on your skin. They would be a 'last step' in your make up routine, swirled over the skin to diffuse and soften the way light reflects on your skin.
I can't believe I don't seem to have ever written a review about these but Dim Light and Diffused Light are both amazing and the ones I have used up. I'd always sort of avoided Ethereal light thinking it might look a bit sallow on my skin and possibly a bit chalky. Hourglass describe it as 'An opalescent sheer, cool white powder that mimics a moonlit glow, even in broad daylight'.
What made me take it out of my stash was seeing two Youtubers using this powder to set the concealer under their eyes. This struck me as a good idea so I dug it out and dusted it off. It's such a good powder for setting concealer. It's incredibly finely milled and brightening and leaves no chalkiness on the skin. I use it mainly for setting concealer using a Real Techniques setting brush but on the days I don't wear bronzer I swirl it over my skin after powder to diffuse soft lines and pores. If you're not a powder lover these could just change your mind.
Personally, I've always been a powder fan and these two are very much loved in my routine at the moment.
