Gucci Magnetic Color Shadow Mono review-Oxydus and Starlight

Gucci Magnetic Color Shadow Mono review-Oxydus and Starlight

I bring to you today my first review of some of the Gucci make up which suddenly appeared last year in Dubai.  Currently it is exclusive to Harvey Nichols here and Sephora Dubai Mall and to the States-I do not believe it has hit the UK yet although I believe it will do...soon.

I picked up a few bits from Harvey Nichols before Xmas but because I bought quite a lot of things as Christmas presents for my friends I held off using/reviewing them until Santa had safely delivered them!

Today I am reviewing two of the Magnetic Color Shadow Monos-Oxydus and Starlight.  There are 19 in the range and these two everyday shades caught my eye as being easy to wear and something I would use often.  But man, here in Dubai they are $$$.  Each one retails for AED175 which is £32 or $47.  My eyes are bleeding at that price.

I realised I didn't take a photo of the packaging so here is a stock image from the Gucci website of the outer container.

It's a sturdy heavy plastic case in black with gold accents and gold interlocking G's on the lid.  It also has a mirror inside.  The shadow has the traditional Gucci pattern embossed onto it which admittedly I find quite attractive. #Sucker

Starlight is a dirty antique gold colour and an absolute dupe for Burberry Pale Barley.  You can see the two shadows side by side below and swatched they are almost identical.  The texture is even very very similar-smooth, silky and pigmented.

Oxydus is a warm golden brown, reminiscent of MAC Woodwinked (which I utterly love) with the same smooth texture as Starlight.  Blended on the eye it doesn't pack as much pigmentation as I would like (and definitely not as much as Woodwinked does) but it is still very pretty and blends like a dream and you can work with the shadow to build it up.  There is quite a lot of fallout though with this shade but it swipes away easily with a fluffy brush.

Both shades have a satin/shimmer finish but without any sparkle or glitter.

Whilst I do like both shades I think these shadows are a 'nice to have' rather than a 'must have'.  The price point is insane, even I will admit that and I love high end make up.  But you can buy decent whole palettes for the price of one shadow here.  That's the reality.  As a gift I think these are an amazing addition to any make up collection but I think personally I won't be rushing to buy more as the shades I have and the texture is definitely dupeable.
