Nars Bold Lip Kit

Nars have brought out two limited edition lip kits-a bold and a nude version.  I asked my lovely blogging friend Hélène from Icaria's to confirm the translation of Baiser De Feu and it is 'kiss of fire'.  I had thought it was kisses plural but never mind I was close!!

Being one for a statement lip I chose the Bold lip kit-but this set doesn't pack the punch I would expect from a 'bold' kit from Nars.

The kit contains a full size lipstick and deluxe size lip pencils and gloss.  All in the same colour family which I would describe as a plummy pink but three different textures.

When I opened the lipstick Damage, it didn't wow me and looked really dark in the tube.  It reminded me of Mac Rebel which is a dark plummy purple and I didn't think I would wear it, but swatched it is a gorgeous sheer deep rose which I love.  Its very sheer and can sometimes be difficult to get an even finish.  Knowing the Nars lipstick range quite well I think there would have been much better options for a 'bold' lipstick-Nars do some amazingly pigmented lipsticks and this one just doesn't pack the punch you expect from Nars.  It's still nice and it is very wearable, it's just not bold.

I already have another velvet matte lip pencil in Sex Machine from Nars and I love it.  'Damned' which is included in this kit is the most pigmented of the 3 and the deepest in colour.  As it is blue based it makes your teeth look whiter.  I wore this to work the other day and my boss said it looked amazing and loved the name.  That prompted a 30 minute conversation about lipstick names-the boys couldn't believe how much thought went into them!

The larger than life gloss, Como is a beautiful plum shot with gold sparkles.  I have to say of all the Nars glosses I find the larger than life to be the most sticky but I will sacrifice stickiness for this lovely colour!  Again very wearable but not bold.

I bought mine from Nordstrom in the US but I noticed Selfridges also have them in stock in the UK for £35 and as an exclusive.  Seems a tad pricey but I think this would make a great gift for anyone who likes lipstick-I hope this sticks around until Christmas time!
